AHA Heartsaver Adult/Children/Infant First Aid, CPR, AED. May 8, 2024 for 3 hours, 4pm-7pm in the Northwest Career & Technical Center's Public Safety classroom.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.

This course is funded by a grant that covers the cost of the tuition (valued at $1,200). To reserve your seat, a fee of $245 must be paid in advance. This covers the cost of the textbook ($45) and the exam fee ($200). 

In addition to the fee to NCTC, you will be required to pay the following fees directly to the entities that provide the following services:

  • $13.25 for a background check
  • $25 for a fingerprint check
  • $20 application fee that is to be paid directly by the student to the Vermont Board of Nursing.

The program begins on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and ends on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Classes will be held at NCTC on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm, plus off-site clinicals (dates to be determined based on availability of facilities). You are required to complete a total of 72 classroom hours + 32 clinical hours for licensure.   

**There will be no class on June 20 and June 25. In addition, NCTC observes the national holiday on July 4, and there will be no class on that Thursday either.** 

This course focuses on safe and effective practices for care in a health care setting. Students learn the basics of assisting patients, body mechanics, ethics, communication, and prepare for the licensing exam. Students can take the written and skills LNA licensing tests in Franklin County or at another location in Vermont. Testing is administered by Excel.

Financial aid may be available through grants offered by VSAC. Call (800) 642-3177 to speak with a counselor.

Payment plan available: $75 deposit plus 2 payments of $56.66, paid every two weeks. Final payment of $56.68.

Clinical medical assistants are skilled multi-taskers who help to maximize the productivity of the healthcare team. Medical assistants enable a healthcare facility to operate more efficiently, which increases revenue and provides a positive experience for patients.

In this course, you will medical terminology, medical law and ethics, HIPAA rules, scheduling systems, patient check-in and check-out, contents of a medical record, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, phlebotomy theory, injections, and routine treatment and laboratory duties.

You will also learn medical terms and their application. You'll start by learning the origins of medical words and how to recognize prefixes and suffixes used in medical terminology. Then you'll learn about the body as a whole and how to differentiate cells, tissues, organs, systems, and cavities. Next, you'll learn to define and describe the function of each system of the human body. This knowledge will help you take the next step in your medical career or education.

You will be also able to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This course includes a voucher which covers the fee of the exam. Upon completion of the course, you will also have the opportunity to gain access to our Externship Starter Kit.

Administrative medical assistants are skilled multi-taskers who direct the flow of patients through an office. Effective patient flow allows the practice to operate efficiently, increase revenue, and provide a positive experience for the patient.

Their duties can include scheduling appointments, entering demographic and insurance information into practice software, managing patient check-in and check-out, answering phone calls, filing and retrieving paper records, maintaining electronic records, composing correspondence, performing daily financial practices, assigning medical codes and processing insurance claims.

Upon completion of this course you will be prepared for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) national certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This course includes a voucher which covers the fee of the exam.
